A week following the start of the Comhairle’s Slàinte Mhath initiative, and numbers joining up to the scheme continue to increase with each passing day.
The initiative means that a family pays £20 a month for unlimited use of all sport centres facilities whilst individuals pay £15 to take part in the scheme. Concessionary rates for those on benefits are applicable. Commenting on the uptake of the scheme so far, Facility Manager at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais, Tony Wade said:
“The uptake within the first week is far beyond what we could have anticipated. The staff at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais have worked exceptionally hard over the last few weeks to get us to the level we are at and I would like to express my gratitude to them. I would also like to thank our customers who have been very patient - especially at busy times. Our current uptake figure stands at 500, with an additional 89 families and individuals who have signed up for the scheme but are still to collect their cards. We are absolutely delighted with how the public are embracing this new initiative. Slainte Mhath is now in operation at Ionad Spòrs Eilean na Hearadh in Tarbert and will roll out to the Southern Isles over the next couple of weeks, allowing users to access all Comhairle sports facilities across the Western Isles using the same card”.
Further information on the scheme can be obtained from the Sports Centres across the islands.
